The first half of the 20th century is characterized by the fact that various states, preparing for war, sought to cover their borders and places of deployment of troops with powerful fortified areas. So the Mazhino line appeared in France, in Germany - the Siegfried line, in Finland - the Mannerheim line, in Manchuria - the fortifications of the Japanese Kwantun Army. In this regard, the Soviet Union surpassed other states, creating two chains of fortified areas in the West, as well as a developed system of fortifications on the eastern border of the USSR.
About what these fortified lines were and how they performed the tasks set before them, you will learn from this book
