In 2019, the Russian chronicler was first published - the most valuable historical source shedding new light on many events of Russian and world history. In particular, there is a detailed description of the pilgrimages of the 16th century in Jerusalem.
A careful reading of this description allows you to come to an unexpected conclusion: the modern city of Jerusalem is not at all that Jerusalem where the pilgrims went in the 16th century. Jerusalem pilgrims was about a hundred kilometers north-east of the current city of Jerusalem. Today it is located in Jordan and is called Gerash - the slightly modified name of Jerusalem. When the Europeans in the 19th century were looking for Jerusalem, they were mistaken, did not reach the place that they were looking for, and stopped halfway. One of the reasons for this mistake was that in the XVII century, Jerusalem of pilgrims was covered with a villa and buried under a four -meter layer of earth. He was excavated only in the 20th century.
