Ethiopia, also known as Abyssinia, is a state that, at the end of its existence, uniting the territory of modern Ethiopia and Eritrea. At the peak of power, it also included South Egypt, East Sudan, Yemen and the West of Saudi Arabia and existed in various forms from 980 to 1974. For more than a thousand years, Ethiopia was the only one in Africa where Christianity dominated. In the colonial period, it remained the only state in Africa, not captured by Europeans.
