The book consists of two essays united by one topic - "Cossacks of Siberia".
The first of them is dedicated to the fate of one of the most striking and at the same time typical representatives of the Cossacks of Siberia. It covers the life path of the Yakut Cossack Semyon Dezhnev in detail, and special attention is paid to the expedition headed by him, which went through the Bering Strait long before Bering, and the entire complex of problems associated with this event is analyzed. On the basis of a diverse, mostly little -known documentary material, the features of colonization processes in the north of Asia in the 17th century, the life and customs of the inhabitants of Siberian prison and wintering are shown, a characteristic of a complex, contradictory, but at the same time extremely interesting and heroic era of Russian geographical discoveries is given.
In the second essay, a historical review of the origin and formation of the first Cossack "troops" behind the Urals is given. On a strictly documentary basis, the role of the Cossacks in joining the Russian state of the northern part of Asia, in its study and arrangement, reveals the origins of combat skill, stamina and courage of the Cossacks of Siberia.
The very concept of "geographical discovery" and its applicability to Russian realities of the XVII century. The author is considered in detail in the final article attached to the book.
This is the second, corrected and supplemented publication of the indicated works of the author.
