Geography has identified a lot in the fate of the Syrians - if not all. In the early Middle Ages, barely realizing their community, they acted as cultural intermediaries between Christian Byzantium and Zoroastrian Iran. And later, with the creation of the Arab caliphate, it was they who introduced the Arabs to the legacy of ancient science. In the Syrian language, diplomats in front of Asia spoke, through Syrian translations, the East perceived valuable information in the field of philosophy, medicine, alchemy, cosmology and cosmography. Traders and travelers, the Syrians brought Christianity to China and India, their colonies on the Great Silk Road and the "Road of Fragrances" were centers for the spread of writing and education. How this small people managed to organize a systematic transmission of knowledge from one generation to another and extended this knowledge among other peoples, says the book of the outstanding historian Nina Pigulevskaya.
