This publication consists of two parts.
The first part includes the monograph Ancient Japan: Culture and Text. In this study, the famous Japanese scientist and writer A. N. Meshcheryakov made an attempt to present the main types of written forms of creativity in ancient Japan (history, poetry, prose, religious works) as constituting a single information text flow. This is the first attempt by this kind made in domestic Japanese studies.
The chronological framework of the work covers the period from the VIII to the 13th century, that is, from the lower boundary of the appearance of Japanese literature, designed by the creation of mythologic and legislative arches, and until the decline of the aristocracy, accompanied by the movement of the Center for power from the imperial palace to the Segun rate.
The second part consists of artistic translations of the Old Waspoon made by A. N. Meshcheryakov. This included such famous monuments as “Japanese legends about miracles” (chosen Buddhist legends from “Nikhon Ryoyik”, “Odzo Gokurakki” and “Hoke Kanky”), “Diary” of the famous writer Murasaki Sikibu (XI century) and “Notes on the notes on leisure »Buddhist monk Yoshida Kaneoshi (XIV century).
The publication uniquely combines the publication of outstanding monuments of Staripoyan prose with an attempt to study and understand them and will be useful to everyone interested in traditional Japanese culture
