In the book, a review of the region of Northern Europe in its historical and cultural integrity is given, the origins of the peoples inhabiting Norway, Sweden and Finland have been traced from prehistoric times. The relations of the inhabitants of the Island of the Gotland of the Vikings is considered, first with the Volga Bulgaria, and then with the state of the Ilmen Sloven and the Finno-Ugric tribes neighboring with them, the early history of the old Ladoga was affected. A brief overview of the trade relations of the sovereign Novgorodians with Gotland in the XII - XIII centuries is given. The history of the accession of the Finnish tribes to Sweden is given, the historical moment of joining the Swedish Finland to the Russian Empire and a century later, the provision of complete political independence to the Finnish people.
