The new book of the historian Alla Krasko covers the period when the estate on the Fontanka was owned by the Sheremetev counts, representatives of one of the most ancient Russian clans. The presentation comes from the owner to the owner, but the heroes of the book are not the owners, but their employees who provided the life of the legendary Sheremetev Palace. For two centuries there were many freedoms: architects, doctors, clergy, musicians ... Among them are many famous names: Professor A.P. Kunitsyn, Senator I.F. Aprelev, Prince F.M. Kasatkin-Rostovsky, architect of Kvarengi ... Among the serfs in the fountain house were whole dynasties of managers, office employees, personal servants ... Archival documents keep the memory of many ministers of the House of his Excellency of Count Sheremetev. The task of the book was to carefully look at people from this world. The environment of serfs gave birth to large talents, leaders and outsiders, good and evil, appropriate and outcasts. Their fates are full of events and are interesting no less than that of eminent contemporaries. Two centuries of the life of the estates with the counts of the Sheremetevs went into the distant past, but many archival documents have been preserved. For almost forty years, the author collected unique historical materials. There is not a single invented plot in the book, its basis is many thousands of documents of the Sheremetevsky archives, and the vast majority of facts are published for the first time for the first time.
