The first Turkish war of the Autocrats of Catherine II is one of the most significant conflicts between the Russian and Ottoman Empires. Russia sought to get a way to the Black Sea, and Turkey wanted to spread its power to Podolia and Volyn, the North Black Sea region and the Caucasus. Turkey was helped by the Crimean Khanate and the Polish rebels-confederals, Russia, in addition to the regular army and navy, involved detachments of the Don, Terek, Little Russian and Zaporizhzhya Cossacks, including the Flotilla of the Cossacks, as well as the Kalmyks forces. In his monograph by A.V. Wreaths shows the significance of all participants in the war, especially in detail analyzing the role of the irregular cavalry of the Russian Empire in this conflict
