Lung tuberculosis, or consumption, is a companion of mankind throughout its history. Until the 20th century, the consumption meant a death sentence, did not spare neither the poor, nor rich, nor unknown, nor famous. But the attitude to this disease in society has constantly changed. In the book of Ulrik Moser, the tragic stages of these changes are shown: a consumption of a “exalted” disease that affects geniuses and angel -like girls, turns into a source of profit of mountain resorts, and then into an evil ulcer of the urban lower classes. In the Third Reich, Nazi postulates about degeneration and racial purity deprived of tuberculosis patients of all hope: they were massively killed or subjected to cruel medical experiments. Despite the discovery of antibiotics, tuberculosis is still one of the most common causes of death - and it is useful to remember this even against the background of more "relevant" epidemics.
