This publication contains all the biographies that have survived to our time (46 paired biographies and 4 separate biographies), emerging from under the pen of the great ancient Greek philosopher, historian and moralist Plutarch from Heronea (c. 46 - c. 127) "Comparative biographies" are biographies of the great heroes of antiquity, a kind of majestic "portrait gallery" of the famous Greeks and Romans.
Before Plutarch, historians of Greece and Rome, composing the biography of a historical figure, sought to simply chronologically state the main events of his life. Plutarch managed to avoid the pile of incoherent stories, focusing on an understanding of the image of the thoughts and character of a person.
The comparative nature of this work is of particular importance, when the analysis of the image of the Heroes is conducted through the prism of the features of two great civilizations.
The comparative biographies of Plutarch are of great importance for studying ancient history, since many works of writers from which he gleaned the information did not reach us, and his works are the only information about many historical events, their participants and witnesses.
All texts are represented in the classic translation of the famous Russian philologist and translator of ancient literature V.A. Alekseeva.
For students of philosophical, political science, historical, philological, cultural specialties and all those interested in the history of the ancient world
