The book presents a wide panorama of various aspects of the formation, evolution and modern state of the left movement in Latin America. The focus of the authors is the “heritage” of the communist International in the theory and practice of modern political parties, how its traditions are refracted in the political and social life of the Latin American states. Among other main topics are the relations of the Comintern and its national sections, the influence of the Cuban revolution and the Soviet-Chinese split on the evolution of the left movement, the views of the left-wreks on the idea of armed struggle and their attempts to integrate into the political systems of their countries. The international team of authors studied both the general trends in the development of the left movement and several key national “cases”. The work is based on the documents of Russian, Argentine, Bolivian, Mexican archives, many of which are first introduced into scientific circulation. The authors expect that the publication will cause interest not only among professional historians, political scientists and internationalists, but also among everyone who is interested in the history of Latin America, its place and role in the modern world
