Lev Ilyich Mechnikov (1838–1888)-a bright Russian scientist (ethnographer, geographer, historian), creative figure (artist, writer), polyglot, revolutionary-anarchist and participant in Garibaldian campaigns, was one of the founders of the soci-knowing approach to the analysis of world history, in The basis of which is the linear-evolutionary concept of the development of society and civilization. The geographical factor, or rather, the nature of water resources is considered as one of the main causes of this development. The history of mankind is divided into three stages: river, marine and oceanic - forced, subordinate and free unions.
