For the first time, the book at the monographic level analyzes the development of the US state-legal system during the civil war and reconstruction based on American historical and legal literature and not previously investigated legal sources. The author proposed conceptually new approaches to considering the legal essence of the war, as well as its influence on the formation of the US state-legal system at the end of the 19th century. And after its completion, the legal status of African Americans revealed the main trends in the development of American dualistic federalism, a characteristic of the basic concepts of the state structure that forms the basis of the confrontation of the northern and southern states is given.
