He drew attention to the little-studied issues related to the determination of the quantitative and class composition of the population of cities, classes of representatives of each estate, their duties, as well as with the clarification of the socio-economic characteristics of urban settlements in different regions of the Moscow state in the 16th century. According to A. E. Presnyakov, the source of all the research interests of N. D. Chechulin was his “his nationalist patriotism, strong and sincere”
