Since ancient times, the Celts caused fear among other peoples. In the representation of the inhabitants of the Mediterranean, these were fierce and indomitable warriors, mercenaries and conquerors, for the most part barbarians and opponents of civilization. Celts tribes, which included warriors, farmers and artisans, united by a common language, a common way of life (supported by military ideology) - although they did not come to political unity - have repeatedly invaded the territory of Europe and settled its continental unit and the islands until To the borders of Asia Minor.
Various Celtic peoples created works of art, artifacts, weapons and material values, which were imprinted in the region where they were made. Modern archeology distinguishes in Western Europe a Gallstat culture, which later gave way to Laten, a group of Iberro-Celts inhabited by the Atlantic coast, and tribes living in northwestern Italy belonging to the Golaseck culture. The Celts did not erect megalithic monuments and left behind only a few large sculptures comparable to those created by Greeks or Etruscans. Their art extended to small objects, and in their figurative series “non -classics/anti -Classics” acquired the form of a kind of fantastic perception of the world, unsteady, elusive visions, reflecting their inner world, filled with magic and beliefs.
Contrary to the fact that the territory on which the Celts settled was conquered by Rome and other nationalities, they managed to maintain their identity, language, rites and religion before the beginning of the Middle Ages. Thanks to the Irish monks who gathered and recorded the oral creative heritage of the Celts, which were transmitted from generation to generation, scientists can study the spiritual world and culture of Celtic tribes, playing a significant role in the formation of the history of the European continent.
For a long time pursued by scientists who were primarily interested in the history of Roman and Greek civilization, today - after large international exhibitions, at which new archaeological finds were demonstrated - the Celts became one of the most attractive for researchers of the peoples
