The monograph discusses the issues of ethnic history, historical geography and ethnoponymics of the Byzantine Pontus in the XIII - XV centuries, the features of the formation and sociocultural development of the multi -ethnic society of the Kingdom of Great Comnins were studied as a result of the interaction and mutual influence of different cultures and civilizations. On the basis of a comprehensive analysis of the information of diverse written sources (Greek, Latin, Persian, Turkish, Armenian and Georgian), as well as data from ethnographic, linguistic and archaeological material, the author reveals the relationship and the ratio between the habitat of the Kartwell population and the territory of the Georgian state, clarifies the Byzantine-and The Georgian and Trapezant-Georgian administrative-political borders of various historical eras, determines the place of the Kartwell population in the ethnic structure of the Trapezund Empire and its role in the historical fate of the kingdom of the Great Comnins. The research is attached to the original texts of the used sources and their Russian translations.
