The book sets out the key moments of the history and culture of the Bulgars - one of the main ancestors of modern Tatars, starting from the first mention of their name in written sources of the 5th century to the Mongol -Tatar conquests of 1236. The main attention is paid to the characteristics of those aspects of the life of the Volga Bulgarians that most clearly characterize them as the creators of a highly developed medieval civilization - cities as centers of craft and trade, achievements in the field of architecture and construction, professional culture and art.
