Old Russa is an arena of numerous long battles for the famous “Ramushevsky corridor” - a road that connected the Old Russian German group with a group in Demyansk surrounded by Soviet troops. Having occupied the old Russa on August 9, 1941, the Nazi troops held the city for 936 days and nights, reflecting all the offensive of the Soviet troops. Only on February 18, 1944, the troops of the 1st Shock Army liberated the city practically erased from the face of the earth-only a few buildings survived.
In the book proposed by the reader, military historian S.N. Biryuk is considering the final stage of the Novgorod-Luga operation (February 1-15, 1944), as well as the Old Russian-Novorzhevsk operation (February 18-March 1, 1944)
