The study of ideas about the authorities in the Merovingian Gaul undertaken in the book made it possible to clarify the main trends and periodization of the Romano-German synthesis. Thanks to the analysis of various sources, it was possible to show: the spreading perception of the early medieval authors of political phenomena coincided in the following. During this period, power was based on the consent between the rulers, nobility and the church hierarchy. With a change in the historical situation in the hagiographic literature, a new topos arose: kings acquired the sacred functions of the patrons of the church. At the same time, the judicial protocols recorded an important transformation of the political representation of the Frankish sovereigns. During the weakening of power, Merovingians first actualized their own role as the patrons of the Church, and only then the judicial function inherent in all the barbaric rulers. The book is addressed to medical historians and a wide circle of readers
