The baptism of the Frankish King of Clovis (presumably 496 or 498) is a key event in the history of not only France, but throughout Europe. Nothing foreshadowed his brilliant fate of the founder of the most powerful barbaric kingdom of Western Europe. The leader of the people of the Salic Franks, who lived in the territory of modern Belgium, Clovig seemed to be forever doomed to play a secondary role in the European political arena of the end of the great resettlement of peoples. Compared to the bright heirs of the perisive Roman Empire - the Westgot, then the Ostrogothic and Burgundian monarchs, Clovig was a modest king without the future. He had to use other means: political cunning, military talent, ruthlessness in relation to enemies. Baptism has become the cornerstone of the chloride strategy to expand the boundaries of its kingdom. The overwhelming number of barbarians professed Arianism - one of the currents in Christianity, which after the Nicaean Council was recognized by heresy. Thus, between the new rulers of late Roman Europe, barbaric kings, and their Roman subjects there was an insurmountable wall that prevented their merger. Clovig was the first to see the opportunity to fix this mistake. The union with the powerful Gallo-Roman bishop allowed the king of salmon francs to strengthen his power and find a common language with the population of Troster Gaul. During his long rule in 481–511, Clovig managed to build a new state - the Frankish kingdom, whose appearance on the former Roman lands radically changed the balance of forces on the political map of Europe of that time
