Seeing on the cover of a book translated from French, the word “banquet”, the reader may think that this is another story about French gastronomy. But the book of Vincent Robert is not at all turned to lovers to eat deliciously, but to the lellians who are interested in political history and are looking for an answer to the question, when and why in society, it would seem quite stable and ordered, revolutions occur. The subject of the book are banquets that their supporters arranged in honor of opposition deputies.
The author not only describes in detail the history of such a meal and describes their device, but also shows the place of the banquet or feast, in the political metaphor of the 19th century. To do this, he attracts the richest material, from the works of Alexander Dumas and Eugene X to the economic theories of Maltus. The main thing, he shows how governments who are stubbornly do not want to meet even the most moderate demands of the people, behave to death. It is no coincidence that the last chapter of the book is called "banning a banquet is to untie the revolution."
The book was translated by Vera Milchina, a leading researcher at the IVGI RSU and the steps of the RANEPA
