"August guns" is one of the most significant historical works of the twentieth century. She was awarded the Pulitzer Prize, withstood many reprints and transferred to all the leading languages of the world, and President John Kennedy recommended her to read his environment during the Caribbean crisis. He saw in the Barbara book a vivid description of the avalanche -like process of sliding to war in conditions of acute international crisis and was afraid that in an unstable world with nuclear weapons, a similar situation could lead to even more catastrophic consequences.
