The new book of the famous Russian writer-Marinist Vladimir Shigin "At the Gate of Constantinople" is dedicated to the events of the Russian-Turkish war of 1828-1829, and above all, the actions of the Mediterranean squadron and the Black Sea Fleet. Then, during the fighting, the Russian fleet conducted a number of brilliant operations: he blocked the Dardanella, captured a number of the most important Turkish coastal fortresses, including Anapa and Varna, and the Russian army approached the suburbs of Istanbul. It was during this war that the legendary brig Mercury committed his immortal feat.
