Antarctica is not only an amazing area of the Earth, but also unique in its status. In 1959, an international treaty was signed, according to which the Antarctic is used in the interests of all mankind, it is free from nuclear tests and industrial development. Scientific research is welcome here and international cooperation is encouraged. It is difficult to find an analogue of such an interaction of states, somewhere else on the planet. The importance of scientific programs in the Antarctic no longer needs to be proved and explained. The Southern Ocean and the processes occurring in this area directly affect the change in the climate of the Earth. At the same time, the white continent and the islands surrounding it and archipelags are still incredibly difficult to achieve and are little studied.
December 20, 2016 The Antarctic Circulation expedition (Antarctic Circumnavigation Expedition, Ace) started. This expedition united scientists from around the world and different areas of science in their desire to learn more about the current state of the ocean, atmosphere, flora and fauna of the Antarctic.
The book dedicated to Ace has already been published in English and French, and now I saw the light in Russia. This is not by chance. "Russian" was a lot in it. The main actor is the Academician of the Treeshniki - the scientific and expeditionary vessel of the Arctic and Antarctic Institute (Aania, St. Petersburg) It was it that became the house, and its crew is a reliable assistant for the multinational team of scientists for three months of swimming. The Russian team of researchers from Aania was also present on board and led its scientific program. Equipped with impressive photographs, the book “Around Antarctica” describes in detail the tasks that faced the expedition, work methods, results and conclusions that scientists came to. But, like any diary of the polar expedition, it is interesting and purely human examples of selflessness, love of their work, responsibility and dignity of researchers and crew
