The 12th volume of the "archive" is opened by the study of Efim Melamed (Kiev) about the history of the supervision of the Stalinist special services for Jewish writers in the late 1930s and the early 1950s, which had the consequences of repression and the physical destruction of many of them.
In the application to his article, a unique material is published - the report of a secret agent who illuminated "activities of brothers -writers".
Grigory Kan (Moscow) makes another contribution to the study of the "eternal" theme: Jews and the Russian Revolution. His study is dedicated to Aaron Zundlevich (1852-1923), a prominent figure of the Narodny movement, a member of the executive committee of the People"s Will. Roberta de Georgie (Udine, Italy) devoted her extensive study of the history of translations and the publication of the "three tales" Leo Tolstoy, who, at the request of Sholom-Aleicham, handed him for publication in the collection in favor of Jews who suffered from the pogrom in Chisinau. The story turned out to be extremely confusing and exciting and brings additional strokes in the biography of L. N. Tolstoy, Sholom-Aleicham, as well as in the history of literary life and publishing of the beginning of the twentieth century.
Maria Gulakova (St. Petersburg) publishes a letter from the ethnographer and socio-political figure Moses Kroil (1862-1942) to Kham Zhitlovsky. The information contained in the letter of Krol (at that time of the emigrant in Paris) of March 26, 1936 shed light on a little-known attempt to organize the resettlement of European Jews in the 1930s to Ecuador.
