The “Anatomy of power” is a joint work of 28 historians from leading universities and scientific centers of Russia, studying the phenomenon of power in the European society of the Middle Ages and the early New Age. Relations of the authorities and subordination, political institutions, processes and technologies are represented here in all the complexity of their manifestations, as a real organism, as a political body, on a wide geographical and chronological horizon: from Russia and Byzantium to the Pyrenees and Iceland. The reader learns about such aspects of European history as the legal foundations of the authorities, the symbolic communication of power and society, rituals and representation, the strength and weakness of specific rulers or entire institutions, ups and falls, sources of study of power, historical thought in the service of power, power and economics and economics , power and religion, the body of the sovereign, myth -making. All studies were conducted according to original sources, some of them are presented in full -fledged translations.
