The monograph introduces into scientific circulation the complex of railway tariff statistics of the Ministry of Finance - "Consolidated statistics of transportation on Russian railways". The book, firstly, contains criticism of the source, and secondly, the information potential of the “consolidated statistics” is clarified to solve various problems of the socio-economic history of Russia at the end of the 19th-early XX centuries, primarily related to the functioning of the All-Russian market, as in industry, and in the regional aspects.
The dynamics of the ratio of domestic and external bread markets, the functioning of the refined market, the role of Central Asia as a market for industrial products, the dynamics of consumption of agricultural and guns at the beginning of the 20th century are analyzed in the work. And in this regard, agronomic assistance and land management during the Stolypin agrarian reform.
Analysis of the source allowed the author to put problems that go beyond the actual transportation of goods. On the basis of extensive statistical and narrative material, a number of important and acute problems of domestic history are considered in the work-in particular, food assistance to the population, the impact of the natural-climatic factor and the equalizing community on the development of domestic agriculture, etc. The book shows the inconsistency The notorious thesis of the "hungry export" of bread from Russia.
