Creation of the "History of Spain" under the personal guidance of the enlightened monarch Alfonso X the Wise (1252-1284) was one of the outstanding fruits of the Castilian "Renaissance of the 13th century", which became a significant consequence of the success of the "quick reconquista", which followed the victory under the Las Navas de Tolos (1212), the result of which was the submission of most of the territories of Muslim Spain (al-Andalus) and the transformation of the Castille-Leon kingdom into a significant factor in the political life of the Latin West of the 13th century. "History of Spain" arose as an official chronicle confirmed by the victories of the Castile kings and their leadership on the Pyrenee Peninsula.
