In this book, on the basis of numerous domestic, Romanian, German and other foreign sources, for the first time, a complete chronicle of air battles was given on the southern sector of the Eastern Front, starting from June 22, 1941 to the evacuation of Soviet troops from Odessa. Various aspects and features of the use of fighter aircraft, bombers, attack aircraft, aircraft reconnaissance, flying boats, torpedo bombers and even coherent and rescue aircraft of all the warring parties - the Red Army, the Romanian Farr and the Luftwaffe are considered. This is actually the first attempt in Russian historiography to a comprehensive and deep analysis of the air battle on a single section of the front and its influence on the course of hostilities.
The book is debunked by the common myths about the “all -powerful attacks of the enemy around the airfields”, the “full dominance of the Luftwaffe in the air” from the first days of the war, the “huge losses” of Soviet aviation and its exceptionally poor training, the “bloody meat grinder”, which supposedly supposedly in which They sent inexperienced and undeclared youths. In addition, the authors studied the features of the Soviet pre -war doctrine of the Air Force and its forced evolution in the first months of the war, describes the numerous biographies of Soviet pilots - both future famous aces and forgotten heroes - analyzed the system of awarding distinguished aviators
