After reading this comedy, A. S. Pushkin pronounced prophetic words: "I don’t speak about poetry - half should enter the proverbs." Today, the comedy of A. S. Griboedov "Woe from Wit" is one of the most cited works of Russian literature. It seems that all it consists of phrases that became aphorisms and firmly entered our conversational speech.
Living and bright, this play has repeatedly inspired artists of the XIX-XX centuries. Nevertheless, the elegant black and white and color illustrations of the master of sharp and well-aimed images, an outstanding artist and illustrator D. N. Kardovsky are still considered unsurpassed.
