A prose writer and publicist, the discoverer of the world of the “district”, the world of the Russian North, the world of “islanders” and other earthly “worlds”. The author of the novel “We” is the first anti -utopia of the twentieth century, translated into many languages, but in the writer"s homeland published only in 1988, several decades after the creation. Evgeny Zamyatin became the ancestor of a whole literary direction, not only in Russia, but also in European literature, having a direct influence on the work of authors such as O. Huxley and J. Orwell. All his life Zamyatin was an “uncomfortable” writer, fighting for his right to independence of thought, to “real truth”, which, according to Dostoevsky, “is always implausible”.
