"Resurrection" is the last novel by Leo Tolstoy, the spiritual and creative searches of the last years of the writer’s life were reflected in him. Started in 1889, the novel was finished and saw the light only after 10 years - in 1899. In the Russian press, many scenes and even chapters were prohibited from publication. "Resurrection" turned out to be among those works of Tolstoy, because of which he was excommunicated. Today the novel is read differently. The tragic history of the spiritual revival of Prince Nekhlyudov and the convicts Katyusha Maslova became on a par with the greatest masterpieces of world literature of the 19th century.
In this publication, illustrations for the novel by the artist Leonid Osipovich Pasternak (1862-1945) have been reproduced. In 1898, L. N. Tolstoy himself turned to him with a proposal to create this cycle. The illustrations of L.O. Pasternak were highly appreciated by the writer, and in 1900 they were awarded medals at the World Paris exhibition. The book also included detailed comments by the Doctor of Philology N. G. Mikhnovets
