The novel describes the actual events of the twenties on Kolyma. They are written from the words of eyewitnesses. Such, in particular, is the case when the White Guard detachment built a fence from the corpses of stripped partisans. The plot of the novel is simple. The exiled Socialist -Revolutionary Vikenty Avilov, having hit Kolyma, settles in the winter of a cheerful, meets a girl’s girl (the Russian name Dunya sounded here) She becomes the mother of his son, in honor of the father of the named Vikesh. Avilov learns about the 1905 revolution. He leaves for Central Russia. Vikesha grew up. The new one was included in the life of the northerners. New words sounded. The son of the exile became "Maxol" - this is how the locals were redone in his own way the new word "Komsomol". And then there is a meeting of the Komsomol member and white-bandy-father
