Leonid Nikolaevich Andreev - Russian writer. The first book of stories, published in 1901, was highly appreciated by criticism, and he almost immediately became a literary celebrity. The first works of Andreev were imbued with a critical analysis of the modern world. However, even in the early period of the writer’s work, his main motives were manifested: extreme skepticism, disbelief in the human mind, a passion for spiritualism and religion arose. Andreyev, after 1905, owes his fame as a playwright to success. His first play appeared in 1905, and subsequently he published at least one play a year. The Bolshevik revolution of 1917 forced the writer to move to Finland, where he was a pen of a publicist denounced the communist dominance in his homeland. Andreev’s works are distinguished by the sharpness of contrasts, unexpected turns of the plot in combination with the schematic simplicity of the syllable
