Tsvetaeva wrote “The Tale of Sonya” in exile in memory of her friend, actress of the second studio of Vakhtangov Sofier Gollidei, with whom she spent the spring of 1919 in Moscow. In this autobiographical story, many famous people of the capital of 1917-1919 appear, surrounding Tsvetaeva: Evgeny Vakhtangov, Yuri Zavadsky, Pavel Antokolsky. The poems dedicated to them, as well as the cycle Poems to Sonya, complemented the composition of the collection
