The new book of the candidate of historical sciences Alexei Lobin is devoted to the study of the struggle for Smolensk during the reign of father Ivan the Terrible Vasily III Ivanovich. The stubborn and long war with the Sigismund Old ended with the accession to Russia of Smolensk and the surrounding lands.
The book discusses all military campaigns of 1512-1522, of which the most significant were the capture of Smolensk, the battle of Orsha, the defense of the Oeps, and going to Vitebsk and Polotsk. Military aspects have been studied in detail: the number of parties, weapons, tactics. Foreign policy issues, in particular, did not stand aside, the formation of the Anti -Gello military coalition with the empire, the Teutonic Order and Denmark. The book is based on a large number of sources of Russian and foreign archives.
