"We create a publishing precedent and hope that from now on canonical Soviet textology, hissing and wriggling, crawl into a rocky crevice. But there is still ahead of this, because there is nothing stronger than the Soviet myth. " These words of Ivan Tolstoy, who prepared for the publishing house "Time" publishing the novel of his grandfather "walking in the torment", were not intended for printing, but they perfectly reflect the essence of the matter. Alexey Nikolaevich Tolstoy (1882-1945) wrote a novel for more than twenty years. The first book, the "sisters", was started on those days when no one foresaw the future of the country - in the summer of 1918, in Odessa. The writer then did not lead ideological attitudes, but talent, intuition and the truth of life. But the final version of the book turned out to be very far from the original - after returning from emigration, the author introduced a significant conjunctural editing to it. In the current edition of the "sisters", the original appearance is returned.
