The Immortal comedy of Nikolai Vasilyevich Gogol (1809–1852) “The Examiner”, the brightest example of the Russian satire, was written in 1836. Ten years later, the author himself wrote that in it he decided to “gather in one pile of all the evil in Russia, which I knew then, all the injustice that are made in those places and in those cases where the most required of a person of justice, and for a person Once laughing at everything. ” The nameless district city, in which the action unfolds, became a model of the whole of Russia, and all types of Russian reality, all the characters of the Russian national spirit, all the spiritual movements and all the vices inherent in a person who sees himself in the other as if in a crooked mirror. The play causes laughter in the viewer and sadness at the same time. The real edition is decorated with drawings by Vladimir Amosovich Taburin (1864–1919) and Peter Mikhailovich Boklevsky (1816–1897), the latter portrayed the Gogol heroes so expressively that later many actors were specially dressed up “near Boklevsky” before entering the stage. The book also included options for various scenes, the play “Theatrical Traveling after the presentation of the new comedy”, the article and notes to the “Examiner” of Vasily Vasilyevich Hippius (1890–1942) and other additional materials
