Gaito Gazdanov (1903–1971) - one of the largest writers of Russian abroad. After the revolution, at the incomplete sixteen years, Gazdanov joined the white movement and served as an ordinary soldier on an armored train, and then was forced to leave Russia forever, sharing the fate of many Russian emigrants. He spent most of his life in Paris and worked for many years to a night taxi driver, since 1953 he was a correspondent, and then the editor of Radio Liberty.
“Evening at the Claire” (1929), the first novel of Gazdanov, brought fame to the young author, opening the doors of leading literary magazines in front of him. By force of talent, contemporaries put Gazdanov on a par with Vladimir Nabokov, and among his “predecessors” they called Marseille Proust and Ivan Bunin, admiring the subtle poetry and musicality of his prose, the freshness and power of the language. However, in the writer’s homeland, the novel was published only after the death of the author, in 1990. In addition to the novel Evening at Claire, the stories of Gaitov Gazdanov are included in the real publication,
