Lord Urred Bebbanburgsky fought for his King Alfred all his life, although he did not wait for a worthy reward for his valor. He keeps an oath of allegiance given to the king, but does not want to swear to his heir, Prince Edward, too weak to keep power. On the deathbed, Alfred asks Utred to represent his interests in negotiations on the unification of the country. If all the Christians of Britain unite, then when the young Edward inherits the crown, his throne will be reliably protected. The whole country with a shudder awaits the death of its ruler, because many claims to British lands, including barbarians from the north. Udred should make a difficult decision that will forever change his life and the course of history: pick up a sword or lay down a weapon, and let Alfred"s dream of a single kingdom die with him
