Georgy Markov is one of the most famous Soviet writers, for many years he headed the Union of Writers of the USSR. Siberian, the son of a hunter, Markov knew a peasant life well. Already the first novel - “Strict” (1939–1946) - brought the author fame. Having taken the story of one family as the basis of the plot, G. Markov, described the events that took place in his native land from the Russian-Japanese to the civil war.
Roman Senchin, reflecting on the success of G. Markov’s books, noted: “Siberian writers have tried to create their "Quiet Don" for more than a decade. The Siberian structure is no less colorful than the Cossack, civil war was no less fierce and confusing than on the Don, love no less passionate. ”
