The middle of the XIX century. The young landowner Grigory Litvinov is resting in a fashionable resort-in Baden-Baden-and is waiting for the arrival of his bride Tatyana. Marriage promises to become happy, because complete understanding reigns between future spouses. And yet something is missing: sparks, fire. That is why Litvinov’s life goes somersault, when Irina appears in Baden-Baden, in which Litvinov was once passionately in love. Irina, unlike Tatyana, is a bright and independent woman. It’s difficult to fall in love with such an easy one, but it is difficult to love, because Irina appreciates freedom above all. This novel of the Russian classic Ivan Sergeyevich Turgenev was written under the impression of his stay in Baden-Baden, but the critic modern to the author assessed primarily not a love intrigue, but an accurate image of a local secular society, more precisely, the part that came from Russia.
