In May 1967, encouraged by mass supplies of Soviet weapons, Egyptian President Nasser decided that the time had come to act. He demanded that the UN forces posted from the Sinai Peninsula, and then blocked the Tiran Strait, closing the sea path to Israel south and east. This was actually a declaration of war. At dawn on June 5, the Israeli military forces attacked the military airfields of Egypt, Syria and Jordan. This action immediately ensured the complete dominance of Israel in the air. This war revealed the remarkable strength and stamina of the Jewish people, who survived one of the worst historical disasters a quarter of a century before and decided to never allow its repetition. The six -day war had a tremendous public resonance around the world. The hearts of Jews around the world were filled with particular pride after such brilliant victories of Israel
