Reprint from the publication. Moscow, 1937. Henry Landau, British intelligence, captain. Born in 1892 in South Africa in a farm family. His father was an Englishman, his mother came from an old Dutch-Burian family. During the Anglo-Broke War, his father was on the side of the Burov, and although he did not take active participation in the war, he and the family were interned by the British. After the divorce of his parents, Henry and his mother moved to England, traveled a lot around Europe, studied in Germany, then in England. In 1913, he graduated from the college of Gonville and Kayus in Cambridge and was going to continue his studies to become a mining engineer, but with the outbreak of World War I volunteered for the front, first served in medical service, then in field artillery, where he rose to the captain. Thanks to the knowledge of the Dutch, German and French languages, Landau managed to go to service in intelligence. In 1916, the chief of the British intelligence service MI 1C (later renamed Mi 6), Sir Mansfield Cumming (bred as "K." in the book) sent Landau to the Netherlands to lead the agent network in Belgium occupied by the Germans. For the successful leadership of reconnaissance networks, Landau was awarded British and Belgian military awards. Soon after the end of the war, Landau, in his own words, by the player, moreover, not inclined to obey military discipline, especially in peacetime, left the service in British intelligence, and tried to earn a living by various adventures, up to the smuggling of diamonds from the diamonds Soviet Russia. Then he moved to the United States, where in 1934 he published a book of memoirs called "everything honestly. The story of the British secret service in the German rear. " The book caused the displeasure of the leadership of MI 6 and was even banned in the UK. Later in America, Landau took part in the investigation of German intelligence in the United States during the First World War. This was due to the claims of American companies against the German government in connection with the acts of sabotage committed by German intelligence officers in the United States before America entered the war in 1917.
