The Maltese Order lasted only 12 years in Russia (from 1797 to 1810), during which time hundreds of subjects of the empire were entered into the registers of two Russian priorities. However, the receipt of the Maltese cross in Russia was not limited to the end of the XVIII - the first decade of the XIX century, and the order lists are far from full. The proposed reference book contains information about all Russian subjects (both Russians and foreigners in the Russian service) decorated with the Maltese cross, starting with the Petrovsky associate B.P. Sheremetev and ending with members of the imperial house at the end of the XIX century.
For the first time in such a volume, information was generalized not only about members of Russian priorities, but also about those who could wear the Maltese cross on formal signs (by the right of inheritance at the beginning of the 19th century or by his position), and the descendants of the Maltese cavaliers, claiming to wear a cross, although they did not have any legal rights, but received the highest approval. Separately listed the cavaliers of the Prussian Maltese Cross, which more than 300 Russian subjects were awarded. In total, data on the presence of the Maltese crosses are given more than 1,600 people. Biographies of 750 gentlemen are accompanied by portraits.
The book will become an indispensable pro-regographic, pharyberry and iconographic reference book for all specialists and lovers of Russian history of the XVIII-XIX centuries
