The epic novel Mikhail Sholokhov “Quiet Don” is one of the most significant and large-scale works in Russian literature, which brought the author of the Nobel Prize and world fame, the novel was repeatedly filmed and translated into many languages. The first three volumes were published in 1928–1932, when the young author was not even thirty, the fourth volume in 1940. The action of the “quiet Don” unfolds against the backdrop of turning events in the history of Russia - the First World and Civil War, changing not only the ancient way of life of the Don Cossacks, but also the appearance of the whole country. In the novel, one of the main topics of Sholokhov’s creativity was fully found - a war as a fratricidal massacre, contrary to human nature. “The main character of his works,” the Finnish writer Marti Larney wrote about Sholokhov, “is the truth itself ... He sees and perceives life as a realistic drama, in which humanity is assigned the main role. This is one of the explanations of his world fame. ”
