It was the Pyrenee war of 1807-1814. It turned out to be the longest military conflict of Napoleonic France. It lasted almost seven years, forced Napoleon to wage a disastrous war on two fronts and led to the depletion of the resources of the empire, which was impossible to fully concentrate on other theaters of military operations, so that in the end the troops of the anti -French coalition came to Paris, and the geopolitical project " The first unifier of Europe collapsed completely and irrevocably.
In this collection, fragments of memoirs of about six dozen authors are presented, by the will of the fate of those who were at the beginning of the 19th century in Spain and Portugal. The meticulous pen of these memoirists was literally reached all the events of a difficult war, as well as the places where decisions were made that determined the fate of individuals and thousands of armies, deaf villages and entire countries. The French memoirs of the Pyrenee war have not yet lost their scientific and literary significance, remaining an important source of the history of those distant years. Given this circumstance, excerpts from their work are collected in accordance with the chronology and theme of events
