“Other shores” are Nabokov’s memoirs, in which he resurrects his past from the first infant sensations up to the birth of his son. In these memoirs, he connects together all the signs and images that were to him in childhood and youth, considers how these images changed and refracted in the future. These memoirs are filled with great tenderness to their past. Everything that was the center of the child’s existence remained to live only in his memory, and in Nabokov’s memories, a breakdown from the loss of that life and those people is always visible. Nabokov meticulously approaches the work of the memoirist, combining documentary information and childhood sensations, fears and joys, dreams, dreams, visions. This is a careful reconstruction, the resurrection of lost in its entirety
