"Ordinary History ”(1846) is the debut novel by Ivan Alexandrovich Goncharov. It unfolds an eternal plot about the collapse of illusions. A romantic young man comes from the province to the capital, full of hope, dreaming of the glory of the writer, about friendship and bright love. In St. Petersburg, he enters "under the wing" of his uncle, a man with great life experience, who is skeptical of exalted dreams and aspirations. The predictions of the Adoev Sr. come true: gradually disappointing in his ideals, the main character by the end of the novel appears before us a completely different person. The conflict of two generations, two characters, two worldviews in "ordinary history" are shown with a subtle humor inherent in Goncharov and soulful lyricism. One of the best examples of Russian realistic literature of the mid -19th century, this novel does not lose its relevance for modern readers
